| Prior
to forming Lost Weekend, guitarist David
Thompson had been the guiding light behind
a few bands like Rhabstallion, Venture,
as well as a session player for Nina Hagen,
Steve Howe and Trevor Horn. Upon returning
to the North of England, he joined AOR band
Voyager UK who created a lot of interest
in the underground scene in the late 80`s
with their single, "Runaway Heart",
a Friday Rock Show session and tracks on
the Bailey Brothers "Vinyl Frontiers"
compilation album. After the demise of Voyager
UK, David set about putting Lost Weekend
together and began by recruiting drummer
Jack Himsworth (Rhabstalion) and bassist
Robin Patchett (Voyager UK). With the acquisition
of ex-Jan Cyrka vocalist, Paul Uttley and
keyboard player Richard Smith, the first
incarnation was complete. After recording their first demo, Now & Then Records expressed their interest in the band. A deal was struck and after remastering and repackaging the debut Lost Weekend album was released. The band were given the opening slot at the label`s prestigious showcase event, THE GODS in `97 and this seemed to cement Lost Weekend as one of the brightest hopes in the UK scene. Through `96 and `97 they played 127 shows around the country, building up a loyal following wherever they performed. For the second album the band entered Startrack Studios ( TEN, BOB CATLEY, HUGO, GARY HUGHES, VINNY BURNS and NORWAY) in january 2000. The resultant album, "Presence Of Mind" was released in july 2000 after a showcase gig at the Phoenix Rising festival in Manchester with Bob Catley. A new important element in the Lost Weekend picture was the addition of a new keyboardist, Kevin Fitzpatrick. The band then took a period off from gigging to start reharsing and writing for a third album which they wanted to top their previous efforts. As a matter of fact "New Religion" succeeds in this task and under the direction of Murray Daigle and Mike Dmitrovic of Emerald Rain the album took form at the MDS Recording studios in Ontario, Canada. The band is also already scheduling new dates for the forthcoming UK tour and hopes to soon make their live continental debut ! |
