| D-A-D is a Danish rock band previously known as Disneyland After Dark, a name that had to be changed after a threatening lawsuit from The Walt Disney Company. Their style of music is melodic hard rock. They have also used the names D.A.D., D•A•D and D:A:D, each name represents a period in their history. In the early 1980s in Copenhagen, Denmark, D-A-D started playing together with the first lineup of consisting of Jesper, Stig, Peter and Stig’s girlfriend, Lene Glumer. Their debut concert was at the youth club Sundby Algaard. In December 1982 they forced Lene Glumer to leave, as she did not fit in, according to their opinion. The three of them kept playing together and on March 3. 1984 Jespers younger brother, Jacob joined the band at a concert at Musikcaféen in Copenhagen. Little by little he became a member of D-A-D. They wanted to make a record and began recording demo tapes in their practice room. A friend owned a record store, and helped them find contacts in the music business. John Rosing from the management bureau "Rock On" heard about Disneyland After Dark. He sought them out in 1984, and became their booking agent. He took full management of the band until a year before he died of cancer in 1998. The band released their first album, Call of the Wild in 1986 and made their international breakthrough in 1989 with the record No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims, which was released on the band's 5th birthday. The album became the band's greatest success, and also gave them a million dollar contract with Warner Bros.. They were poised for great success in the United States, but the breakthrough didn't happen. They achieved some airplay with the single Sleeping My Day Away, but in the end, gave up on the chance of making it big in the US, and concentrated on the European market. Osaka After Dark was recorded live in 1990 in Osaka, Japan. The current lineup is Jesper Binzer, Jacob Binzer, Stig Pedersen and Laust Sonne. | |
