Dakota has tight sound and strong, consistent songs. The band plays straight ahead rock, with twists of AOR, a little blues, and some harmony vocals for good measure. Jerry Hludzik and Bill Kelly met in the early seventies when Kelly led the band "THE BUOYS". The band scored a couple of hits and then in 1978 long-time friend Mike Stahl who introduced them to CHICAGO drummer Danny Seraphine who produced an album on EPIC for them under the name THE JERRY/KELLY BAND. The first DAKOTA album was released on Colombia in 1980. A second album "Runaway" followed in 1984 on MCA. Steve Porcaro (TOTO), Ritchie Zito, Ernie Watts, and Paul Jackson all contributed to this monster AOR release. Their 1996 album "Mr. Lucky" reunited Hludzik and Kelly and added member Rick Manwiller. Hludzik and Kelly finally went their separate ways but Hludzik continued the Dakota tradition with their next album "The Last Standing Man". This is their latest. |
