| There are only few people
in the music business, who can look back on such an impressive professional
career as TOMMY DENANDER. The list of artists Tommy played with
reads like the WHO IS WHO of Rock. At the age of five he started
playing guitar as well as keyboard and has established himself in
almost every style. At the age of twelve, he started playing on
demos for friends. Two years later, he produced "Cut In Ice",
his first album, together with the Swedish Hard Rockers ATC. Journalists
compared him to EDDIE VAN HALEN and ERIC CLAPTON. Since then, Tommy
is considered one of the best session musicians in Sweden's top
elite. In 1987, he went to Los Angeles for
three years to get more experience and to get in touch with top-notch
musicians and songwriters, who immediately agreed to do recordings
with Tommy for his critically acclaimed RADIOACTIVE albums: Jeff
Porcaro, Mike Porcaro, Steve Porcaro, David Paich, David Hungate,
Bobby Kimball, Fergie Frederiksen, Joseph Williams, Fee Waybill,
Greg Phillinganes, David Foster, Jason Scheff, Abe Laboriel, Neil
Stubenhaus, Randy Goodrum, Bruce Gaitsch, Michael Thompson, Dean
Parks, Vince Dicola, Geir Rönning & Jim Jidhed ... an incredible
line-up! In 2005 and for the 3rd year in a
row, Tommy placed a song in the Eurovision song contest. Furthermore
he has written the theme to a big Swedish music TV program called
"POP IN" that started in August for the biggest music
show called "VOX-POP". The project DEACON STREET originally
started out with Tommy and his partner Chris Demming (AOR, Spin
Gallery), who had written songs together for various artists and
found themselves with a lot of very good but unused AOR / melodic
rock-songs. But, as Tommy points out, "Don't mistake it for
a cheap and fast way to get some leftover songs out - If you're
a serious fan of classy melodic rock you won't be disappointed with
the quality of this release. It's top class from start to finish".
For the first album, Tommy had asked people such as Jan Johansen
(Ignition), Marcel Jacob (Talisman, Yngwie Malm-steen), Magnus Weidenmo
(Spin Gallery), Jeff Northrup (XYZ) and Sayit to appear on it. The new album by DEACON STREET, "II", now features even bigger names, which will definitely whet every AOR / melodic rock fan's appetite: Stan Bush, Christopher Cross, Jeff Watson (Night Ranger), Steve Morse (Kansas, Deep Purple), Reb Beach (Winger, Dokken), Bruce Gaitsch (Richard Marx, Madonna, Peter Cetera), Thomas Vikström (Talk Of The Town), Andreas Novak, Johan Fahlberg (Jaded Heart), Bobby Messano (Glen Burtnick, Fiona, Joe Lynn-Turner), Bill Leverty (Fire-house), Daniel Flores (Sha-Boom, Faro, Philip Bardowell, Speedy Gonazales), Vinny Heter (Radioactive), Chris Antblad (Spin Gallery), Tony Franklin (MSG, Lana Lane, Street Talk), Peter Sundell (Northern Light, Grand Illusion) among others. "II" includes 14 great AOR / melodic rock songs in the vein of JOURNEY and GIANT, enhanced by an admirable musician-ship, beautiful arrangements, and an excellent production (of course done by Tommy Denander himself). On this album, Tommy also pays tribute to Paul Stanley (on whose forthcoming solo album he played guitar) & KISS, as he performs a cover version of their 1980's "Easy as it seems" and also a great rendition of THE SWEET's classic "Action". This makes DEACON STREET's "II" a definite must-have for fans of the artists mentioned above and of course for every-one who enjoys fine and well-produced AOR & melodic rock! |
