It was in the middle of the crazy 80’s that LAUDAMUS stood up from the deep, dark forests of Northern Sweden, just below the Arctic Circle. It was there, under the flaming northern lights and burning midnight sun that they started to develop their unique sound and exceptional live capacity. Peter, the founder of the band, was the one who realized that was something missing in the music scene, so he picked up the guitar and started what would become an outstanding band called LAUDAMUS. The original line-up at the time consisted of Peter Stenlund (vocals, guitar); Anneli Storå (keyboards), Pelle Johansson (bass) and Anders Sandlund (drums). In April 1992 LAUDAMUS released their first single “Be there Forever/ Overlord” which contained songs in classic metal style. After some time playing and developing their skills and style, the band returned to the recording studio with a slightly different line-up. Stefan Berg and Fredrik Burström joined Peter, Anneli and Anders for the four song EP “Ready Or Not” which was released in 1993 - one year after the first one. It was very well received by the fast growing fan base. Another demo called “Realize/ Until The End” was tracked in the Spring of the same year which though marked the end of this line-up. Bassist Burström was the first to leave, a loss which Peter solved by visiting his younger brother Jonas, who was working in the garden at the time, and asking him if he simply could take up the job. Jonas, who’d never touched a bass before, happily accepted. The conditions were tough because one week later the new line-up of LAUDAMUS had to perform their first gig – which Jonas passed with grace. At that point both Anneli and Anders left the band, so that only the Stenlund brothers were left. LAUDAMUS was then put on ice, just doing some exclusive gigs, from 1994 to 1998, when drummer Jonas Cederteg joined the group. Jonas was a “southerner” (meaning that he came from the South of Sweden) who found himself studying music in Piteå and got stuck. LAUDAMUS discovered his talent and skill and swiftly picked him up. So, once again like a phoenix, LAUDAMUS had risen from the ashes. After intense and dedicated work LAUDAMUS proudly announced the release of their first full-length CD at the end of the old millennium entitled “Unlimited Love” which was followed by tour in Sweden and Finland. In Spring of the year 2000, the band went over to the USA for a promotion trip where they got invited to play the STRYPER Expo in 2001 by Bill Bufford. At this time, LAUDAMUS continued to tour Sweden and Finland, where they became one of the most sought after live-acts - due to their charisma and extremely sharp and expressive music. The contacts to the USA proved to pay off even more, when they got in touch with legendary producer KEN TAMPLIN in 2002. LAUDAMUS for a while gathered material for a new album, and when they sent a demo to Ken, he immediately showed his interest in the band. So, the guys were invited by TAMPLIN to come over to his Music Painter Studio at New Port Beach, California to record the album “Lost In Vain”. The result is an astonishing album with great songs in the vein of Nightwish, and IMPELLITTERI, heavy rhythms à la TNT and powerful choruses as the like of KANSAS plus a message that goes straight to the heart. Fans of melodic metal shouldn’t miss this album!
