A welcome surprise is this "new" release by a German Melodic Rock band named "Marathon" which I unfortunately only have a few infos about. Anyway, "Marthon" is another compilation from a time where this kind of music was simply everywhere and ruled the radio airwaves. Between those 12 tracks on this album you can find many songs that just are perfect for radio airplay. Amongst them are the great ballad "Wings just want to fly", the awesome uptempo track "Rope Dancer" which reminds me on Cannata a lot, the great mid-tempo song "Can't break the blue" with a huge and melodic chrous and the rocking "Energy free". Original is also the Asian influenced "I send my love to Tokyo" which turns out to be one of my personal favorite tunes on the album. Other highlights include the rocker "Running through the night", "Do we ever", "Riding on the edge of time" and a lot more. Together with the awesome production, the great performance of the band I would put those album put on the same level as classics like the debut albums by Craaft & Zeno. Highly recommended to any fan of Melodic Rock and by far the best release in the kind of genre in 1999 until now - even though it's only old songs on it. - Birgitt Schwanke |
