| ZAR was founded in 1989 by guitarist, producer, and songwriter Tommy Clauss. After less than a year, the band created its debut album "Live Your Life Forever", for which they were able to get John Lawton (ex-URIAH HEEP) for vocals. This debut was a grandiose start for the band and was hailed by the critics. For "In the Line of Fire", Michael Leckebusch (famous for his legendary BEAT CLUB) even produced a video. A couple of TV performances (with JENNIFER RUSH, among others) followed after that. Starting on their second album, John Lawton found the material to be too heavy for his taste. He was replaced by Tommy Bloch. "Sorted Out" was released in April 1992. Raving reviews solidified their fame. The songs of their third album, "From Welcome to Goodbye", were performed live prior to producing. Achim Köhler produced this album in 1994. It turned out to be the most successful album of up til now. It was released in Japan and the Far East, and ZAR was welcomed warmly by the press all around the world. A couple of TV-Shows and live broadcasts of their shows followed after that. In 1996, ZAR published their latest record, "Holy Rhythm of Nature", tougher and weirder than everything else they had done before. Despite its success, the band seemed to be burned out after that, and they decided to take a break. In the millenial year, mastermind Tommy Clauss decided to wake up ZAR again. Created together with André Sauber (vocals) and Lars Nippa (drums), produced by Tommy Clauss and mixed by Achim Köhler, "Hard to the Beat" turns out to be a superb Hard Rock album not to be missed. | |
