| ZENO ROTH was born in 1956, and started to play guitar at a very young age. His early influences were from blues and rock bands like Cream, Johnny Winter, Yes, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. During the 70's and early 80's, Zeno was involved with a couple of bands (BLACK ANGEL and KARTHAGO) and also started writing material for his own project which he eventually formed in 1984 together with Ule Ritgen (Fair Warning) and lead vocalist Michael Flexig. ZENO's demo tapes weer shopped to major labels and as a result, several major record companies courted the band. ZENO eventually signed to Warner Publishing and decided to go with the EMI UK record label. The debut album was recorded in 1985 and included guest musicians such as Chuck Burgi (Balance, Rainbow, Blue Oyster Cult), Don Airey and Chris Thompson. ZENO toured in support of the album with bands such as Black Sabbath, Krokus and played festivals with bands such as Queen. Problems were mounting, both with the the label and with the band and ZENO was put on hold for several years. The debut Zeno album was ultimately re-released in Japan in 1993 and created an amazing reaction - selling more than 25.000 copies. The Japanese label Zero Corp. approached the band about doing a new album and a deal was set in 1994. Zenology was released in 1995 and was quite popular in Japan selling some 40.000 copies. The album was released later that same year in Europe but the label folded and the album was shelved. By the end of 1995 Zeno Roth started to write for his third album which would eventually become "Listen To The Light". Zeno plays all of the instruments himself using only the talents of lead vocalsit Michael Flexig for the vocal parts. "Listen To The Light" was released in Japan in January of 1998 and once again has been doing great there, selling more than 40.000 copies so far. Also in early 1998 Zeno Roth made the connection to MTM Music and released the album Europe. | |
