Axe is a melodic rock band that originated in Florida in the late ’70s by former members of Babyface. The original lineup consisted of Bobby Barth (guitar, lead vocals), Edgar Riley (keyboards, backing vocals), Mike Turpin (bass), Mike Osbourne (guitar, vocals), and Teddy Mueller (drums). Signed by Curb Records and later by Atlantic/ATCO, they released four albums of polished melodic rock and reached the charts with their third, Offering. Tragically, Osbourne died in an automobile accident in 1984 and Axe disbanded. Barth recorded a solo album and then joined the Southern Rock band Blackfoot. He also played with Andy Parker (drummer for UFO) and Angry Anderson (Rose Tattoo) before reforming Axe again in the early ’90s. The second coming of Axe included Bob Harris (Frank Zappa, Warren Zevon) on keyboards and vocals, Blake Eberhard (Windmachine) on bass and Christian Teele on Drums. Two more albums (Five and The Crown) were released and three different “Best Of” compilations followed including “Axeology” a 2 CD collection released in 2012 on Rhino Records. Barth replaced Ricky Medlocke in Blackfoot in the late 90’s when Medlocke joined Lynyrd Skynyrd and toured with them for a decade before reforming Axe again with Harris on vocals, Alessandro Del Vecchio (Hardline, Edge Of Forever, Eden’s Curse) on keyboards and a stellar rhythm section. Axe performed at the Sweden Rock Festival in 2012 and were captured live for the first time ever by six HD video camera crews. Barth recruited longtime friend Mark Pinske (Frank Zappa) and Ben Watts to help with the video production and the result is a stunningly brilliant DVD and CD of that concert sure to please and amaze Axe fans of all ages.
