Jimmy Barnes waited three years before releasing the follow-up to the hugely successful “Freight Train Heart”. “Two Fires” (1990)was the result, and you would never guess by listening to it that the gap between this and its predecessor had been so long. “Two Fires” is standard Barnes: arena rock anthems and commercial ballads topped by Barnes’ nicotine-inflected rasp. Put simply, if you heard Freight Train Heart, you’ve pretty much heard “Two Fires”. It was a safe option for Barnes to release what is, in effect, “Freight Train Heart 2”, but not a good option. A few songs are really standing out (most notably “Let’s Make It Last All Night” and “Lay Down Your Guns”), making “Two Fires” another winner for Jimmy Barnes.
